Fastlane BMX Magazine went along to The Pure Bicycle’s team training centre to see the new prototype frames being tested. The Pure Bicycle Company are normally associated with high end titanium BMX & 4x race frames but they have now expanded their range to include some sexy looking aluminium frames as well. The first of the new prototypes were on display at the British Championships at Cheddar and seemed to generate quite a bit of interest.

With the new Bmx frame the first thing to notice is the long sweeping curve that runs from the head tube to the new hydro-formed rear end.
Pure tell us that this shape helps with the frame stiffness. In fact the chainstays are a work of art and would not be out of place at the Tate Modern

Aaran Shrosbree of EA Pure Racing said “In the past when swapping between a BMX and 4x I have noticed that on the bigger bike my manuals aren’t as good. This doesn’t seem to be a problem with the new Pure’s. I have swapped countless times and find the 4x really easy to handle and control. This bike is sturdy, and you can still muscle it around in those loose corners with relative ease and keep your speed. When in the air the bike feels super light and agile, as it does when you are on the back wheel”.

The new Pure Bmx frame had its first test in proper race conditions at the EA Champs in Peterborough. After taking the win in the male 17+ I asked Aaran how the frame performed: “Out of the gate the frame feels exactly like the (TI) frame, super stiff and it just accelerates down the tarmac. The (Al) frame corners really well; comfortably holding a nice tight line and maintaining speed. It will be great for those last ditch attempts in the final berm to make the mains. Overall the bike rides as good as it looks which certainly is an accomplishment because it looks great! I think that the design shows that frames can look amazing whilst making technical advances”.

As mentioned before these are the 2011 prototypes and some minor design tweaks will be made for the final production models. These frames should be available by the end of the year. Prices are not yet confirmed but expect the Bmx frames to be around £450 and the 4x frames around £650.
