Recently Greg Hill (GHP) and JT USA racing got together to release a limited run of racing gear.  Knowing the quality that JT was famous for I was a little apprehensive at first.  Would the new JT hold up to the high quality it was known for?  Let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed, impressed was more the word for it.  The first thing I noticed was the classic yet modern design.  All the gear dawns the famous GHP logo and has a very clean look to it.

The jersey is true to size, high quality and breathable.  Also for the first time, with any jersey, JT has added extra padding along the shoulders for those riders wearing a neck brace.  The gloves are made from a vented and light weight material.  They have a “thin” feel for added control while retaining a high protection if your hands happen to hit the ground.

I would have to say that I was most impressed with the pants. Both the JT USA and the GHP logos are raised and very noticeable. The high back system holds the pants on well and the side cinch straps give you even more adjustment. The knee and shin padding is a nice addition. I don’t feel the need to wear extra knee and shin guards that just weigh me down. The inner liner runs from waist to ankle while most racing pants out there only go as far as the knee. With all that said it really appears that JT went the extra mile and have cut no corners.

Now off to the track. Black Mountain BMX was the site of tonights practice session. The first thing I noticed was the feel. The gloves gave me a good positive connection to the grips. They didn’t bunch up or feel thick. The pants were very flexible and breathed well. With the waist to ankle inner liner I didn’t feel any  of the seams. The knee and shin guards appear to be bulky but I didn’t feel them at all. The jersey, well what can I say, it fits well and moves where it needs to. The added logo along the bottom of the shirt meant it stayed in place.  Not only does the uniform function better than anything I’ve ridden it turns plenty of heads.

Unsure I hadn't been set up by Scott Donald Fisher Beaumont I asked for race history. I'm now convinced Donald is Donald and not Scott. 

Read Donalds race history:  I started racing back in 1989 at the age of twelve. In 1995 I moved to Arizona for school and have been here ever since.

As a kid I never raced on a national level only locals. In 2006 I started racing more nationals and in 2007 I started riding for a local team named “Octane/GHP”. In 2008 I was asked to be a part of the first GHP factory team. That year was the first year I made the mains at the ABA Grand nationals in three tries. I also finished within the National Age Group top ten in 8th place.

In 2009 I went into the ABA Grands sitting in 8th place again, hoping to better the position by the end of the weekend. Those hopes where cut short when I crashed hard during the first qualifying round and blew my back out. My hopes now reseted on just making the main event. I was able to make the main and finished sixth. This gave me the N.A.G 8 plate for another season.

In 2010 I joined the GHP Factory Vet Racing team. A team based around a few older riders just out to have fun. Unfortunately though my back injury was worse than I thought and it kept me off the bike and out of the gym for most of the season. My year ended with a dramatic crash at the ABA Grands in the semi qualifying rounds.

Three short months later my son, John Roland, was born and national racing has taken a back seat. Racing is still in my heart and my veins. As for now I ride and race locally all the while looking forward to the 2012 season and the challenging 36-40 cruiser/expert class.

So thats Donald and some fresh GHP JT Racing gear!
