When it comes to putting on a regional event the people of Exeter BMX Club rise to the occasion and are usually rewarded with a good turnout of riders.  This meeting was no exception with a healthy rider count of 241, dry weather albeit a tad windy, and a well prepped track that rode nicely though claimed a few victims during the day.  The raffle prize of a Ferrari F430 failed to materialize but just may have been a figment of Jez Beck’s imagination.

Forty-two Novice riders fought out their races divided into four categories with Exeter’s Aaron Peake using home track advantage to win the A Final in 6 and Unders and Willow Peake doing likewise in 7-9s.  Bideford’s Will Hutchens took 10-12s honours despite a DNF in his second moto and Nathan Abbott from Bristol romped away with the combined 13+ group.

Cornwall’s Josh Caddy swept the board in Cruiser 9-12 and Burnham’s Roy Jones excelled in a combined 13-16 group holding off the challenges of Cornwall’s Jake Quintrell.  Bideford’s Brian and Cyril Jury dominated the 17-29s with Brian winning the all important A Final.  All the 30-something Cruiser riders were lumped together with Burnham’s Clive Hawkins netting the A Final win from Decoy’s Paul Eccles.  40-44s saw Matt French guesting for Cornwall and winning all but one of the motos whilst in 45+ Duchy’s Dave Herman reigned supeme although Exeter’s Steve Jenks, first time out this season, was snapping at his heels and stole a moto from him.

Molly O’Loughlin from Tiverton won all the Female 6 & Under races and Cornwall’s Megan Wherry continued her domination in a combined 7-10s group with Burnham’s Alesi Tye doing likewise in 11-12s. Burnham’s Kimberley Scoones took a quartet of wins in the 25+ category.

In 6 & Under Burnham’s Jack Hawkins took all the wins but in the 7s the races were shared between Exeter’s Freddie Cole and Duchy’s Jack Nation with the former winning the group.  Burnham’s Ben Saunders stole the show in the 8s, Decoy’s Ethan Squibb took the 9s and Cornwall’s Alex Diment the 10s.  More runaway winners saw Burnham’s Josh Coppin take the 11s and Cornwall’s Josh Caddy do the double on Cruisers and 20” with the 12s sewn up too.  Biggest group of the day were the 13s with moto wins liberally shared around but Burnham’s Eddie Moore winning the A Final ahead of club mate Liam Brown.  Bristol’s Ben Waters took the 14s A Final from Exeter’s Brandon Rutley.

Exeter’s Dan Davis held off the challenges of Decoy’s Oliver Fay in the 15s A Final and Bideford’s Daniel Jury took the 16s despite failing to finish the fourth moto but having won the previous three.  In 17-24 Tom Palmer from Burnham took the win ahead of Adam Brazil.  Bideford’s Michael Smart held reign over the 25-29s whilst Bristol’s Richard Green took the wins in the 30+ Masters and Vets group.

The Summer Series moves to Burnham on 20th of June for Round 5.
