The penultimate round of the East Anglia BMX 2010/11 Regional Winter Series was held at the Sloughbottom Park track of the Norwich BMX Club last Sunday. After a four week break since the 4th round the host club was confident of a good turn out of riders but the media forecast of country wide rain and the biting wind on the day of the event kept all but the hardiest of riders at home but even so almost 70 competitors signed on for the days racing. The track was in good condition and rode well throughout practice and racing but the wind ensured the riders had a hard time to compete to the best of their ability.
Royston’s action started with the 7& Under class where Callum Barrow took 4th in the class A final with Brendan Salmon taking 7th place whilst in the 8-9 year class James King led the way throughout the day to take 1st place with team mate Alfie Salmon taking 5th in the same class. The 10-11 year class saw Miles Fisher leading all his qualifying races and taking a clear win in the A final and Marmaduke Birt, who also qualified for the A final, took a well deserved 4th. The 12-13 year group saw another A final win with Ethan Vernon returning to the track for his first regional race for some months following injury which hardly showed in today’s performance. Competing in the girls classes was Ella Tomsett who battled against the wind to take 2nd in the 9-10 class. The final class of the day, the 17+ cruisers, saw no less than four Rockets competing with Sam King taking 5th in the A final just ahead of Carl Birt in 7th whilst in the class B final Matt Salmon maintained the clubs honour with 2nd just inches ahead of Helen Nicholl in 3rd.
Royston’s forthcoming events are published on the club web site but are weather dependant and subject to change.
