EAST ANGLIAN REGIONAL ROUND 4 Milton Keynes 29/05/11

 

The BMX regional schedule continued last Sunday with the fourth round of the East Anglia Regional series on the modified track of the Milton Keynes BMX Club. The track and surroundings have seen a lot of work over the winter months to get it ready for the event and although the sun hardly shone all day over 130 riders made the journey to take part in a full days action packed racing which was again marred by the high winds which made some of the track’s jumps difficult to judge.

 

Royston had 18 riders taking part in the event with most of them eager to gain points towards their regional ranking and to qualify for the British Championships in September. BMX racing caters for all ages and abilities and at this event the action starting with the novice classes where James Kirby took 1^st place in the 11-13yr category whilst in the “expert” classes the racing got under way with the 6 & Under class where Joshua Abbott took 3^rd overall in the class and the 7yr class Elliott Bowyer took 1^st place for the third time this year by. In the 8yr class Callum Barrow took 2^nd in the class B final  and in the 9 year class Kele Newell took 4^th place in the A final. The 10 year class saw the usual battle between James King and Ted Dalleywater who both made the main final, this time with James taking 2nd just ahead Ted in 4th place. The 11 year class saw Matthew Fraser making the move up from the novice categories taking 5^th with team mate Daniel Blanche keeping the points rolling in with a clear win to keep his regional title challenge on course. Another win in the 12yr class A final went to Aaron Dalleywater and the feat was repeated by club and sponsor team mate Ethan Vernon in the 13yr class. The winning streak continued in the 15yr class with James Handleigh getting back into his form of previous years with a clear win whilst Sam Manser took also moved up the finishing order with 5^th place in the class final. Representing the girls was Faye Godfrey who took yet another win in the Female 13-14 year class and in the 16yr class her brother, Jordan Godfrey, took a well deserved 3^rd place. In the 17-24 class Andrew Brooker finished in 7^th and in the Masters category (30+) Alex Shore-Nye went one better with 6^th place. The final classes of the day were the “Cruisers” and the ladies 17-29 class saw yet another win going to Royston’s Helen Nicholl to end another good days competition for the club which after all the rankings have been calculated shows the club moving up into 2^nd place just behind the Peterborough club.

 

The next event on the race calendar is the fifth round of the East Anglia Regional hosted by the Braintree BMX club on June 12^th which is also the second leg of the East Anglia V South inter regional challenge..
